The Wellington Car Removal Checklist

A little preparation before your Cash For Cars Wellington collection ensures the process goes smoothly, quickly, and without any last-minute stress. This checklist has been developed from our experience collecting thousands of vehicles across the Wellington region — it covers everything you need to have ready, everything to do in advance, and everything to check before our driver arrives.

Before You Call

• Find your rego number: Check your rego plate or vehicle documents. This is the most important piece of information for getting an accurate quote.
• Note the vehicle’s condition honestly: Running or not? Any significant damage, missing parts, or issues you are aware of? Honest descriptions produce accurate offers that are honoured on collection day.
• Check your PPSR: If you have any uncertainty about whether outstanding finance exists on the vehicle, check at ppsr.govt.nz before calling. Outstanding finance prevents legal sale.
• Decide on payment preference: Cash in hand or bank transfer? Have your account number ready if you prefer transfer.

After You Accept the Offer

• Clear all personal belongings: Check every storage area — glove box, centre console, door pockets, boot, under seats, boot floor compartment, sun visors, and any removable storage. Also remove any aftermarket additions you want to keep (dash cameras, phone holders, aftermarket stereos).
• Locate all vehicle keys: All sets, including spare keys you may have stored separately.
• Find your photo ID: Driver’s licence or passport. Required to verify your identity at collection.
• Check remaining registration time: If registration has several months remaining, you may be entitled to a refund from NZTA. Our driver will advise you on claiming this.

Wellington-Specific Preparation

• Check driveway access: Wellington’s steep driveways and tight access can challenge larger removal trucks. Clear any obstacles and let us know about any access difficulties when booking so we can send appropriate equipment.
• Garage access: If the vehicle is in a garage, unlock it and ensure there is sufficient clearance for our loading equipment. Minimum 2.2 metres height clearance is needed for standard collections.
• Street access for Windy Wellington: Wellington’s famous wind can make paperwork challenging outdoors. Having a sheltered area to complete the MR15 form makes the collection more comfortable for both parties.
• Inform household members: Let everyone at the property know the collection is happening and approximately when, to avoid any confusion on arrival.

On Collection Day

• Our driver will call approximately 30 minutes before arrival
• Have your photo ID and vehicle keys ready at the door
• Payment is made before the vehicle is loaded — have your account details ready if using bank transfer
• NZTA MR15 form is completed on the spot — takes approximately 3 minutes
• You will receive a copy of the MR15 form and a receipt for your records
• Total time at your property: 20 to 40 minutes for most Wellington collections
